Biosphere - it is where we find life on earth.  It may be an elephant in India or
bacteria in a Peruvian desert.  It isn't just limited to the lithosphere (land), it can
be found deep within our ocean trenches or living in the tundra high upon a
mountain.  Life is even found in unlikely places (see extremophiles below).
Temperature seems to have an impact on diversity (how many different types of
life we find there), but not on the fact that we cannot find life.  From the hot desert
salt plains of Death Valley to the frigid regions of Antartica, we find life.  The
biosphere is there.
Extremophiles - life that exists in extreme conditions.  Link to
a website with information about these amazing organisms:
Extremophiles
The Earth can be divided into three different "spheres," based on the characteristics of each one.  The
lithosphere is the solid (non-ice) portion of the earth.  The hydrosphere is the earth's surface waters,
both streams, lakes, and oceans.  The atmosphere is the gaseous portion of the earth found above the
land and seas.  The biosphere is that part of our planet where life is found.
